Fact-checking policy

Verification standard

No MPRP requirement, fee, threshold, deadline, dependant rule or procedural step is published unless it is supported by a reliable source in the following order of priority: official Maltese Government sources; the Residency Malta Agency; official legislation; official legal notices; official government publications; other authoritative institutions; reputable professional sources (only where labelled as interpretation).

How we verify

• We read the primary document — the consolidated regulations or the Legal Notice — not a summary of it.
• Figures are stored once, in a fee database that records the source, legal reference, effective dates and verification date, and are rendered into pages from that database. Historical figures are kept separately so old and new rules are never mixed.
• Each page records last_verified_at and a review status (Verified, Needs Review, Outdated, Archived).
• Automated checks flag pages without sources, without a verification date, past the review interval, or with missing metadata.

Re-verification

Pages are re-verified at least every 90 days (configurable) and immediately when a source changes. When the Agency publishes a new Legal Notice or updates its official page, affected pages are set to "Needs Review" until re-checked.

What we do if something cannot be verified

We do not publish it as fact. Where a point is uncertain, we say so and direct readers to the Agency or a licensed agent.
